Two old babe`s at the range

Yesterday i was shooting my two old ladies at 100 m. The first pic was my Winchester M1917 and the second my Savge No.4 MK1*. At the Winchester i did correct the windage so there are two nice groups. The LE was tested with relodet ammo a 180grs. S&B FMJ with 37.8grains of VV N140. Ithink that works very good.

    Very nice, indeed.

My sons and I shoot in military silhouette matches using 50 year old or older "as issued" military rifles at ranges from 200 to 500 meters. It is amazing what old military rifles with standard military sights, triggers, and barrels can do.

Thank you, i am also amazed what this old rifles could do. That`s what i am dreaming of shooting at distances between 300 and up to 500 metres. To shoot more than 300 metres is very hard here in germany.

    Regards,

    Gunner

I'm lucky to live near a range complex. My sons and I shoot at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center. Has almost every kind of range from 25 yard pistol to 1000 yard rifle.

One of the other match shooters posted a picture from one of the monthly Military Silhouette matches..

Sacramento Valley Milsurp Silhouette Match - Swiss rifles Dominate - Straight-Pull Rifles - Swiss Rifles - The Swiss Rifles Message Board - Message Board - Yuku

You can see the turkeys at 385 meters and chickens at 200 meters on the left in the background and the rams at 500 meters and the pigs at 300 meters on the right

And this is an aerial of the entire range complex

Thank`s for the Pic`s. You make jealous. When i see the range i want to shoot with my G11 at the targets. The range is ideal you have to manage the distance, windage, miraging ...... . That`s shooting!

    Gunner

Wanted to ask you if Swissicon rifles were popular in Germanyicon and what other rifles you have. If you read the entire thread, then you know that the Swiss and Swedishicon Mauser rifles seem to dominate at the silhouette matches. Although, some of the "Top Guns", do well with DMW made Argentineicon Mausers, BRNO Persian 98's, US 1917's (like yours) and Remington 03A3's.

The older fellows also have a "sniper class" where they shoot scoped military rifles and many do well in that match with Finnishicon M39's and scoped Swiss K31's

What surplus rifles do you have?

The swiss rifles where also popular in germany. Mostly the K31icon and then G11 less the K11 and the Gewehr 96/11. The other popular rifles are the K98icon, Swedishicon Mauser both versions, Lee Enfields and M1917 also the 03. I own a G11 a LE No4 MK1* and a Winchester M1917 and i share a K31 with an match shooter. Yesterday i was looking for an K98 from 1937 Mauser Oberndorf. That looks great and makes fun to shoot. I think i`ll buy this one. Wich milsurps do you have?

    Rgeards,
    Gunner

Gunner, there is a lot of land near the range.

But many people will tell you that California is not the place for shooters. The California State government is doing everything that it can to make it hard to own and shoot guns in California. Many guns, like AR15's and AK47's (semi automatic only, of course) are legal in other states and not legal in California. A lot of shooters have moved out of California because of that. Many gun dealers will not sell to California residents. And even on military surplus forums, some members will bad mouth Californians.

I refuse to cut and run and prefer to stay in California and fight to maintain my rights.

Sooo..You would be welcomed into California with open arms, but if you like and want to shoot guns--expect a fight

    Steve
