H&R Cavalry Model Front Sight Height??

I recently bought an H&R Cavalry Model Carbine repro. The prior owner installed a globe front sight. There is a dovetail notch on the barrel front, so I am planning to replace this with a Lyman #3 blade.

Here is the question. What is the optimal height for this blade given that I plan on shooting an average load of +/- 1,000 fps muzzle velocity using Trail Boss and a 405 grain bullet?

Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom.

Optimum height of the front sight depends on what the rear sight is and how you want it zeroed. I'd suggest you get a tall front sight and then with the rear sight on the 200 yard setting (assuming a 200 yard range is available) zero your standard load (you should develop a standard load before adjusting the sights) by filing down the front sight until the center of the group comes up to the desired point of impact. I prefer the group to just sit on top of the front sight. This can also be done at 100 yards but at a range less than that greater inaccuracies are like with the longer range settings.
