    Winchester Bolt Usage in 1944

I have a Winchester Serial No. 5,757,XXX that I am curious as to the bolt that would have been put on it. I know Winchester started introducing the round bolt mid '44 and had mixed use for a time.

Would a flat bolt still be proper for this serial or is the general belief that the round bolt would have been in all production by this time?

My thought is that Winchester would have mixed use for quite some time for all parts which is what your prove.

BTW, Charlie thanks for the stock. The rifle looks good in it.

Round bolts show up as early as the 5,5 range, so I would expect the flat bolts to be purged from supplies by the time your 5,7 was made.

OlManDow.......was it just Inland and Winchester that stanadardised the round bolt during WW2 production carbines and all other maker carbines had flat bolts.....or did all later production carbines switch to generic round bolt useage.

    regards

I.B.M. standardized the round bolt, type 2 barrel band late in their contract and S.G. also used the same set up late in their contract too.
