Pakistani marked No1MkIII rifles?

Has anyone ever seen such a beast? I've got one of the nice POF No4Mk2 rifles.

Then this thing fell into my lap. By still existing proofs it started life as an Ishapore made rifle.

Date on receiver matches up nicely with one of the intermittant Paki/Indi border wars..

We have some pics of various Kyber rifles sent to us over the years by members, but I haven't seen that incarnation before. Being 1966, is it still in .303 caliber?

You have a very nice rifle there. Without the opportunity to examine it in person, I hesitate to be definitive but I think it is a real item handled by Pakistan and not a Dara or Pakistani native made rifle. The P date marking is certainly consistent with POF marked and some later police arms as sold by Springfield Sporters.

Badger, having handled 100's of No1MkIIIs over the years, and currently hoarding a large number myself, I can without reservation state that it is NOT a Darra or Khyber Pass copy. It is most definitely a Pakistani captured and marked Ishapor manufactured rifle. Anyone who wants to see this rifle in person can do so at the Washington Arms Collectors show this coming weekend in Puyallup Washington. I will have a display table there for my meager collection. Hopefully Ian Skennerton will stop by... Anyone else is also welcome.

Sorry, bad choice of words, my apologies.....

I was just posting the pics as background color for the region about some of the Khyber Pass locally made pieces that come out of the region.

In reading the post later, I realizeI was drawing comparisons when I really meant to say that I had not ever seen any Enfields come out of the region with those kinds of markings and I found your post and pics very intersting on the subject.

If you ever have the time and inclination, I think it would make for the topic of an excellent article for the MKL (Milsurp Knowledge Library).

This past weekend I had the Pakistani capture No1MKIII rifle on display at the WAC show in WA state. Ian Skennerten came by and ended up VERY interested in the rifle. He stated it has the P for Pakistan marks, and by the date it matches the time of the border wars. It was the only one he has ever seen.
