New butt trap for Mossberg 44US

I have a 13-year old nephew who is very interested in shooting but slightly built. The issue butt stock for a M44 is much too long for him. I bought a spare stock & trimmed off 1.125" & installed a rubber butt pad. We went to an Appleseed shoot & the combination worked well. However, we kept having to keep track of the two spare magazines.

I had an extra Garandicon butt plate which comes very close to being a perfect fit except at the toe where the butt plate overhangs the stock about .2". Since the butt plate is steel, I am reluctant (at least for now) to trim it.

Two M44 mags, when placed side by side, will slide through the butt trap opening. I removed the rubber butt plate, inletted the butt for the Garand butt plate & then bored out a hole into the butt deep enough to hold the two mags. The photos tell the rest. We can now carry 3 mags, 1 in the rifle & two in the butt.
