    .22 Enfield's Addendum

    Addendum

    .22 No. 5 Trials Rifle

Many thanks to Warren for sharing photo’s of his beautiful .22 No. 5 to add to the trainers list.

The .22 No. 5 was initially designed to be a competition rifle, thus the fine adjustment rear sight and tunnel forsight. Approximately 105 were produced at BSA Shirley making them a rare piece.

For the collector one can notice that both the No. 7 and No. 8 trainers were born from this trials. Please note the bolt arrangement, which gave the No.7 & 8‘s non-standard system, the side wall ejector and the 5 round magazine (some .22 No. 5’s were issued with just a loading platform instead of the 5 round mag).

    Was the No5 in .22 built up on a No5 action or a No4 action ?
I only ask as the trigger guard is not waisted (as in a No5) at the front TG screw.
Whilst the picture of the complete rifle will not 'blow-up' it doesnt look to have the typical lightening cuts of a No5
As you say - the magazine and bolt were obviousl;y a success and led to the No7

We have two or three at Warminster and they're based on No4 bodies and not lightweight No5 bodies
