The forums seem a bit slow lately so I present this to y'all........

In an old Hank Williams song the line goes like this....."there's a hole in my bucket...I can't buy no beer".....

Question, What is this in reference too?? What does a bucket with a hole in it have to do with buying beer???

O.K. Emri I'll give it a try. Back in the old days you could go to a bar or tavern and buy carry out tap beer by the bucket. Of course if your bucket had a hole in it you were sheet out of luck (so to speak). Now old Hank wrote his own songs in his own dialect and didn't care if two negetives made a positive, so his bucket was probably fine. Now if it would be Hank Jr. the hole would probably be from throwing the bucket in the air and shooting a hole in it with his "ole .45"....Frank

I got the point across, but messed up the line. It actually goes "my bucket's got a hole in it". In years past people did take a dedicated "beer bucket" to the local saloon or corner grocery and buy beer to take home for consumption. No one I asked around here was familiar with beer being sold that way so I thought it might be a fun diversion to throw out for discussion.
