    Pitted M1 Garand barrel question

I picked up a group of barrels at a gun show recently. One looked really dirty but turns out the bore looks pitted. ME = 2, TE= 4, SA-52 barrel. Does this barrel have much value? Might it shoot OK? Should it be tossed?

    Input would be greatly appreciated.

Pitted barrels CAN shoot very well. Only one way to find out. However, they tend to be a bear to clean. Good luck. If you have a friend who doesn't shoot too much it would work for him.

Chuck it. It isn't worth the trouble when you can get a new Criterion barrel for $180. The Criterion barrels shoot very well. I like Wilson replacement barrels too.

Unless you have the means and know-how to install it and find out how it shoots, I'd sell it and let somebody else figure it out. If you have a GB or fleabay account. With a decent muzzle and TE, it might be worth something to somebody.

If it shoots, don't worry about it. I've one that's been on three different rifles over the years, and it's still VERY accurate. I quit worrying about getting it spotlessly clean years ago...

One never knows until you shoot it. I have had plenty sewer pipes come through my shop over the years. Some will shoot just over MOA and some print MOBarn. I have had some that were pitted badly and shot great until the bore was cleaned and stripped, then they shoot as bad as they looked.
