    New 03A3 (barrel stamp question)

Rolled the dice on a GB auction for a sporterized 03A3. Took possession today and am in the process of putting her into a Keystone replacement stock from the SS.

There is a stamp along the left side of the barrel about 1.75" back from the lower band. It would be covered by the handguard. The stamp reads V1RM. Pictures are not clear but I can attempt more if necessary.

Any thoughts to what it means?

Probably the steel lot code. It was a way for the Army's Ordnance Department to keep track of who supplied the steel for the barrel in case of problems or questions.
