K98 Bayonet

I've tried to add pics of a bayonet I bought at a gun show and has asked before if it was made with the Swastika or it was added later. The general consensus seemed to indicate it was a "homer". i am guessing maybe that means it was brought home, maybe to the US, and then the Swastika added. I tried to include a pic showing the condition of the blade and wonder if anything could be done to improve it's looks or best to leave it alone.
Thanks a bunch for any info.

Nothing can be done to improve this value wise, the swastika was added later either by its owner or by someone hoping to raise the value of a basic 84/98. I have only ever seen dress blades with swastikas on them and a lot of fake etched and engraved ones. hope you didn't pay a lot for this as it has only real value to someone who collects fakes and they wouldn't pay a lot - always less than the unmodified piece to stop more clowns ruining perfectly good items.

I gave $125 for this bayonet. I wasn't sure about the Swastika and knew I was taking a bit of a chance on it. It looked neat though. The frog was in better condition than the other two I have and the scabbard has a good finish still on it. I haven't really bought anything with the idea of selling them and making anything off them. For now just buying a few to start a collection and gain some knowledge. I do appreciate your info. Thanks.

A good scabbard and frog out of the deal isnt too bad, the blade wouldnt fetch over 50 to someone who knew their blades, sell it as one out of hitlers bunker brought home by your grandad, taken from an SS officer and you may make 10 times that - I've seen it happen!

I'd have to really take a dislike to someone to do that but there has been a couple I met over the years.lol

One thing I certainly learned is that there are no enhanced 84/98's.
