    At A Gun Show Today

I ran across a first year Smith Corona, made in October 1942, according to the S/N, and sporting a six-groove Smith Corona-marked barrel dated 10 42, with the correct Ordnance symbol. Metal is in great condition, and it doesn't appear to be an armory rework.

The bore looks pretty good, but the stock has been refinished and oiled with a slight gloss finish.

Guy is asking $795, but said he would come down. Even if he comes down to $700, do you guys think this is a tad high on the price? The rifle will be a shooter, if I buy it.

    Opinions, emotional outbursts?

    Thanks in advance.

    Pen,
Did you go to the Birch Run gunshow? I went there today. I left Detroit on Friday to get home, to make sure I was able to visit Birch Run on Saturday!
I saw several 1903's in the $600+ market.
I saw one that was similar to what you are mentioning. The stock was very NEW(!) with a very SHARP "P" in the usual location. Is this similar to what you were looking at?
I am not an expert on 1903/A3's, but will say this... I didn't see any below $600.
Most people seem to like the 6 groove barrels. While I prefer the SC's... a lot of people seem to like the Remy's....
I can't give a good opinion... since I am still "lurking" in the market!
What exactly are you looking for? A 1903... or an A3? A shooter that is a collector... or just a shooter?
    Pass on to the experts!

The 6 groove barrels are nice shooters. The price is at the high end all right. Get $100 off and go for it.
