Best bullet choice for the '91 Argentine Mauser?

I'm new to the old military rifles and to the forum.
Hope to reload for my "new" Argentineicon, 7.65x53 soon.
I hope someone with experience loading for these rifles can tell me what bullet(s)
they have found to be the most accurate.
    Thanks in advance!

The 1891 Argentineicon Mauser has a very deep throat (see Olson, "Mauser Bolt Rifles", P. 55).

I have tried everything I could find in my 1891 Engineer's Carbine. The only bullet that gives satisfactory results is the long 0.312" 174 gn Hornady flat-base round-nose type 3130. Everything else (including hard cast lead) was ACWOTAM. (for newbies: A Complete Waste Of Time And Money). This is the only form that provides sufficient bearing surface in the throat to keep the bullet straight and ensure that it is engraved square-on.

Shorter bullets. above all boat-tails, lose contact with the case mouth before contacting the transition/forcing cone. The results are gas blow-by and skewed bullets rammed into the throat at an angle, which leads to keyholing and complete misses.

    Don't bother trying anything else!

    Patrick

    Thank you Patrick,
Sounds like you have done extensive testing! Thank you for sharing your hard earned knowledge. The 174gn Hornady will be the choice for me.
I appreciate the "heads up" on ACWOTAM too. Good one!
