    M1903 National Match serial number?

Can you experts tell me if serial number 1482098 is a national match rifle on the SRS list? Thanks

The serial number is not listed in the DCM Sales list. It could be a NM rifle, but wasn't sold through the DCM.

JB or Johnny Peppers should weigh -in on this issue. But, do understand the US Army had many NM '03's in storage when WWII started. Many were issued out to the troops and beat up. Lots of NM serial numbers were then "lost". You could well have a real NM but no real way to prove it.

If the rifle is a National Match rifle, then it should have a star gauged barrel and/or a serialized National Match polished bolt and/or a serialized Type C stock with coarse-checkered buttplate. If those features are missing, then I know of no way to authenticate the rifle as a National Match rifle.

The rifle was at a gunshow. It had all of the above except the stock was numbered to a different action and the receiver sight was a Redfield which was smaller than the cut-out in the stock. The metal finish was really good. I should have saved a picture to post. I educated myself more when I got home from the show and wish I could see it again, just for the education. It sold on gunbroker within 3 days.

Mine meets all of the requirements listed above but probably has little collector value having been drilled/ tapped for unertl scope mounts at some point in it's life. Dumb@#% Bubba also sawed the stock off right at the lower barrel band step.

I see: didn't sell at gunshow, sold on Gunbroker, sight unseen. Doesn't sound very good to me. Wrong stock and wrong rear sight do not work for me. Never mind the serial number. Ok to pass on this one!
