Question on early AR-15 barrels ?

The early AR-15 barrels had a twist of 1:14, did they also have 6 grooves ?

Yes, 1/14" 6 groove, RH twist. early model 601 AR15 (full auto). Winchester made the barrels. The 601 had the early "duckbill" thin three prong FH and triangle charging handle, the 602 model had the beefed up three prong, the current design charging handle, and switched to a 1/12" twist.

The early 601 barrels were made by Winchester, after that they were made by COLT. Some of the later Model 601s had 1/12 twist barrels.

It's the part I am missing to make this one correct,(except of course the reciever)mine has an MP marked barrel.

When I posted a photo of the barrel and carttridges I wanted to ask about the GB 73 headstamp on the 223 cartridges. Where these produced for the military or commerical market/or both ? Have these Greenwood & Batley 223 cartridges been around for a period of time ?Attachment 24132

Correction on the manufacturer of the 223 cartridges with the GB headstamp, they are Chartered Industries of Singapore
