    SVT40 buttplate

I've an SVT40 minus a buttplate and I have an SVT 40 buttplate (supposedly), but they're not compatible-the buttplate is about an eighth of an inch biggerin all dimensions than the stock is. It doesn't fit my other rifle either, btw. So- any ideas? Could it be for an SVT 38 or some other similar gun? I bought the buttplate many, many years ago from a well known dealer and was just too lazy to do anything about then, but now I'm in the mood to restore this old warhorse so it's time, I guess.

The bigger buttplate could be for an AVT 40 stock - these were commonly used on SVTs when they got refurbed. The AVT stock is a little beefier to handle full auto fire.

That sounds reasonable, I'll just get a flat buttplate at a gunshow and make it fit, the stock has been badly broken and bubba repaired, so no loss. Thanks.

    Question

More likely what you have is a PPSh 41 butt plate.
