A flamethrower team in action on Iwo Jima. Riflemen provide security for the flamethrower operator while he engages a target.

That's an awesome pic. Any chance we can see a larger version of it?

    Flame

It's even more awesome when you see it in person. Several years ago, GCAicon held its convention at the Virginia Military Vehicle Museum, and they put on the most realistic squad assault on a pillbox you ever saw, complete with mortar support. The mortar fired with the familiar "Chunk!" and a few seconds later the "round" exploded on the target. The enemy MG continued to roar until the squad worked close enough with fire and manuever to use the flame thrower. Wow, what a show, and all right in front of the bleachers close enough to see everything perfectly!
Real men measure once and cut.

I've read how the flame thrower guys were the most shot at targets by the enemy, with the flames shooting forward, pinpointing their positions.
