SMLE No.1 MkIII aperture sight mount

Hello all,

If I have done this right, below should be a picture of my 1915 No.1 MkIII. Converted to a .22 post WW1 by Parker Hale, it has an aperture sight mount but unfortunately no sight!

I wish to replace the sight but use the existing mount. Does anyone recognise the mount? I have looked at the http://www.rifleman.org.uk/ but I don't think any of the Parker Hale mounts match.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have never seen a base like that, and suspect it might be home made. Most model engineers I know in the UK could design and make almost anything. One talented lot as a whole.

I think the simplest way may be to use a PH5A sight (although I'm not sure how useful it would be with .22 on say a 25mt range)

Any early sight that would have attached to the rear volley sight should work, like a early BSA or Mues

I've seen those ocassionally. I don't remember who made them, but user1 is right, they'll take a variety of sights but given the period of the rifle its most likely to use a BSA, either the type 9 (also agp 9g) or the square framed one. They show on ebay regularly and more in the UK one.

An alternate sight which is designed for the 303 being used as a .22 is the Cooey, there's one shown there, Canadian made, and most still seem to come from there,

It looks like a home-made one, possibly for the early AJ Parker TZ sight.

Yeah that TZ does look really close! Right, now to try find one at a reasonable price! Probably overkill for a .22 but I like my accessories! Thanks for the info - much appreciated.

That would be a great match, the ol TZ's are a good sight.
