How to fit the ring that holds in place the upper handguard?
I suspect that barrel centering in her groove results from ring correct fitment. Mine doesn't touch fore end forwards trogger screw hole , and it should be ok but the wooden shoulder of fore end, where it sits, seems to be shrinked. Right side soulder is almost tight, while the left one is a bit longer. I also suspect the ring swings at the right fore end shoulder pivoting from left side, that's more firm and tight. Could i restore it with laminate wood or it's a waste of time?
Sorry for my poor technical terms: i called "it" a ring, and the thin parts of wood where it contacts i called "shoulder".

The "rear handguard retaining ring" should not affect the receiver bedding in any way: even when the receiver is in the forend and the front trigger guard screw is tight, the rear handguard retaining ring should still have some movement. If the ring is being trapped between receiver and forend, then you should adjust the channel where it fits.

On some rifles (especially when fitting brand new oversize wood, or if the forend is warped), you may need to create a small cut either side of the forend, so that the rear handguard retaining ring is free to sit a bit lower.

Thunderbox is right about describing fore-end fitting using words only..... or ANY fitting now that I think of it. Our instructors used to set us homework to describe one part of fitting a fore-end or a sear etc etc JUST to see whether we described it a) accurately and b) with absolutely no ambiguity whatsoever. Try describing bolthead overturn in words alone!

Ahahahah I chiseled out a tiny scrap of wood just under the two small cuts made some years ago to fit the handguard ring, because i found (with talcum trick) that there was an unwanted contact between the ring and fore end. As TBone wrote there's a bit of free movement of the ring itself. But comprehensive bedding is the same: perfect bearing at the draws i patched last week, perfect bearing around trigger guard screw and past for half an inch. No contact at the reinforce and barrel sit to the left at the fore end tip. It should be a warped fore end, but not the worst. So i'm going to patch the reinforce and to chisel out some wood at fore end tip to make the barrel fit "in the groove".. are there other solutions?
