Lee Enfield no.4

Hello, I have bought a sporterized Lee enfield no.4 MK.1 and want to know more about it.

It seems to be a Fazakerley 1949 FTR Serial Number Y5317, The WristGuard is marked 1945 England.
Other than proof marks there is nothing else on the metal.

Are there supposed to be other marks on it?
And what does the 1945 mean, original production date, original serial, other?

Fazakerly is not a hay fever reaction, it is/was the enfield ww2 factory in the UK, and yep the wrist number of 1943/5? is the year of production date. FTR means 'factory thorough refit' or similar, and 1949 is the year it was overhauled. Can you see how many grooves are in the barrel? They come in 2, 4 , 5 and more. Nicely though, they all shoot well.

The number is clearer in person and is definitely a 5, other than to look in the barrel is there a way to determine the number of grooves?

The rifle was apparently renumbered during the refit as I can see a faint number behind the current one.
I had seen something at one time about a YF number with the arms of the F on the stem of the Y, any relation to this one?

The interlocked FY logo is a abbreviated FAZAKERLEY. Not seen on too many rifles but certainly on spare parts production (as manufacturers had to identify their stock) but definately seen on Fazakerley made Sten guns
