Help Identfying the WWII USGI Rifle Case

Hello,

I walked into the local gunshp today and they had a USGI rifle case they thought I might like (because Im about the only military collector around) that they showed me. It is marked Boyt 1943 and is built very sturdy. It is made of leather and metal. It looks as though it could attach to something (Jeep?) via a mounting bracket on the back side. Its hard to tell in the pictures but there is a rib on three sides similar to the one that is visible in the first photo on the side. I would like any info on it I could get. What is something like this worth if I was to purchase it? Sorry about the quality and quantity of pictures, I took them in the gun shop. Thanks to all.

It's a leather carrying case, Auto rifle M4. For the BAR. No idea as to worth becasue they never crop up around here. I don't think it's meant to attach though.

It seems like, from my reading of this site and your screen name, that you have ian interest in the BAR. Do you have one? Just curious.

I used to collect US military and had virtually all at one time. I've had 3 BARs, Marlin Rockwell, Royal Typewriter, NESA. I think they're great except for the amount of ammo they compell you to go through... I still have an active interest in all these things.

What are the Canadian full auto rules? Do you have to have something like a Class III permit here in the US? I would assume so but you know what they say about assuming...

Here is the WW1 BAR rifle case, some four inches longer than the 1903 rifle case, this case was re-issued during WW2. There are some BAR websites that list the values on these cases.

The full auto collectors ended in 1978 or 79. No full auto collectors since then. If you have them you can have them. You can't shoot them. Same as the converted auto's such as ex full autos changed to fire semi only. All grandfathered. Our laws aren't the same set up as yours. Nothing we can do about it. We're lucky the long gun registry was dropped. Now our 10-22s and Winchester 37's and the like don't have to be registered anymore. The real good days are well behind us. The young these days don't know what they missed.

(All this was spouted without trying to say anything political. And without being too specific.)

Unfortunatly I am in that group of "young" people, though I do know a few guys with Class III permits and I shoot them in a semi-regular basis.

Sorry, I mean the young here in Canada. In the US you can still become a full auto or supressed collector providing your state allows it. If you don't like the rules, relocate by a few hundred miles or less. We have one set of rules.

I do agree that I probably missed out in alot because I am Young. It seems very weird to think that until the late 60's (in the US) one could own a full auto and the only requirement was having cash. For the time being I will just have to be happy with my AK and my slide fire stock. The differences in rules from country to country is interesting though. Thanks for all of the info.
