No4 Mk1* TWO GROOVE BARREL?

Was the Savage version rifle issued with a five groove barrel from the factory? Or, was it a two groove barrel? Also my rifle has a "B" stamped on it, and I'm assuming it was refurbed at the Birmingham arsenal at some point. My rifle appears to have a two groove barrel, and all parts seem to be "S" stamped, and I wasn't sure about the different barrels. Thanks for any info provided.

Early Savage rifles had a 6 groove barrel; however, they switched to a 2 groove barrel early in the production. As far as the "B", if you are referring to the one located on the left side butt socket, it is still one of those unanswered mysteries.

Thanks for the info. I knew the early Savage made rifles were made with six grooves but wasn't sure if or when they switched to the two grooves. I knew mine was not an early example by the s/n.
