    5-44 dated 4 Groove barrel?

I'm talking to a guy about a 4 groove 03A3 dated 5-44 barrel which he states is a 4 groove. I thought by 5/44 pretty much all of the barrels were 2 groove.

Where 4 groove 03A3 barrels still being made in 5-44?

    Thanks

Never seen one up close but I think High Standard? made some 4 groove barrels in that time frame. Also heard of some 6 groove barrels but never seen one of those either.

If it's a Remington barrel dated 5-44 then it might be be one of those two groove barrels Sarco had recut to four groove. Look down the barrel and you can tell if it's a recut barrel as the lands are a different size and very apparent to the eye. I bought one sometime back, but sent it back. Not sure if a recut barrel would be OK.

If as Vintage Hunter says it's High Standard barrel then it is a factory cut four groove. I have a four goove HS barrel dated 10-44 mounted on a match type 03A3 rifle. These were replacement barrels and were for 03's.

What is the barrel marked, RA or HS?

I won the barrel for $100. I talked to the seller and expressed my concerns. He confirmed that this was a 4 groove, 5/44 RA barrel covered in cosmolineicon. He could not say for sure whether it had been recut from a 2 groove.

He was a real gentleman and we agreed to exchange the 4 groove 5/44 barrel for a NOS 2 groove RA 2/44 barrel .

Well, I got the 2-groove 2/44 RA barrel and it definitely appears to be NOS..still in the cheese cloth.

    Also got a new 1903 barrel...HS

Apparently, the seller knows the son of a deceased gunsmith and is helping the son dispose of the father's old stock.
