    ZF41 scope mount - original

Kameraden - recently picked up a ZF41 scope mount completely blindly it has to be said. Having done a minor bit of research my initial thoughts that it might be a repro have been revised and I think it may be genuine. Things like the overall very rough patina and so forth. I'd appreciate the opinions of the experts though. It is marked with a 'v' on the inside of one of the arms, k98k-zf.41 on the end with no markings on the end of the cradles and no rifle number engraved on the top. Edit - there should be a question mark at the end of the thread title! I can't imagine how it got in such a state apart from presuming it might have been made that way in desperate days at the end of the war. The dov and 'v' I understand suggest it is at least a late mount.

The code is duv - Not dov. Don't know where the v is you mention as I don't see it in the photos.
I'd say it is an original that is Very badly rust pitted in places. There should be a 214 proof under the duv, but the pitting has obliterated it. You also can not tell if it ever had a scope nr above the duv because of the pitting.
Hope you didn't pay a lot because it has no collector value in that condition.

Thanks Sarge - the 'v' is on pic 2 on the inside of the left vertical arm. Re condition - I'm personally not that fussed as long as it's functional and original!

If it can be made servicable, I'd rather have it than a reproduction mount, even if it takes repro parts to fix it. So it's "better than new" at any rate!

Thanks jmoore - yes that's my opinion too - so far as I can tell it should work ok - the rusted stuff is mostly cosmetic.
