What rifle is this 1913 Warner & Swasey mount for?

I need some help identifying what rifle this mount would be for....

It came with a grouping consisting of Model 1913 Warner & Swasey Telescopic Musket Sights c/w M1913 Pattern Leather Carrying Case with adjusting tool in the pocket compartment.

The seller (5 years ago) said it had been neatly packed away in a family's attic since the 1940's and belonged to her grandfather.

I have W&S mounts for the 1903 rifle, but this doesn't look the same. I also have an original 1915 M10 Ross MkIII* Sniper Rifle but the mount on it isn't the same as this.

I added some pics of the mount and also the adjusting tool below..

Anyone hazard a guess as to what rifle this mount may be for?

The only other weapon that comes to mind is the US Machine Rifle, Cal 30 Model 1909 Benet-Mercie. I believe they all had the bracket to mount the Warner & Swasey scope ?
only a guess, If you can locate photos of this M1909 showing the left side, it might help

I haven't actually tried that yet, but it's a good idea ..

... and if promo is correct, then it should fit fine...

It does look really old and weathered, not having the external appearance of a repro, but that could just be the result of original bare metal simply aging ..

It's one of the reproduction mounts for the M1903 Springfield. I have one of these aswell, they are also pictured on page 499 of Brophy's "The Springfield M1903 Rifle".

At first glance one might think this was made for the P14, but there is an identical base and US Warner & Swasey scope case on ePay at the moment in Italy, and besides, this base would not fit far enough forward on the P14.

The Benet-Mercie must be the correct answer; the gun they chose over the Lewis!

No, it is NOT for the Benet-Mercie MG. As I already said, take a look into Brophy's book, you'll find exactly the same W&S scope rail pictured. I know it, as I have one of these myself.

The Benet-Mercie used the same style of the rail as did the M1903, it just had seperate "feet". See this original drawing:


Furthermore, for what I know the Benet-Mercie was flat in the area where the scope had originally been mounted. This picture would suggest the same thing:

Oh sorry, I didn't see your post. The curvature on the back side looks rather extreme for any rifle I can think of. It looks more like the curvature of a barrel than an a receiver wall.
