Started Mark I Build

Finally get to build my first Mark I Semi.
Its a 1941 Enfield serial #H7638.

BTW both the carrier slot and the lower slot have already been welded approximately 1".
I stay compliant through the whole process.

Very creative jig. You have put a lot of thought and work into your build already. Are the wood blocks just for keeping slag out of inside?

The wood blocks are actually wedges that hold two upper copper bars tight against the receiver walls.

How good a finish do you get on the inside using copper blocks? Does the copper melt?

Brit,
The copper does not melt but serves as a back -up bar for good welding and also gives a smooth inside finish with reduced clean up. The bars are re-usable as well. I made the bars several years ago but with copper prices now, I'm sure they are pricey.

Welding finished and about 90 percent of the final cleanup complete.

Looks like a top job, just needs a light shot blast, parking and a coat of as near to sunc as you can get (There is some on ebay at the mo). Do builders of cut recievers get them NDTd or just rely on practice makes perfect?
