Unhappy M1 2&5 round enbloc clips

    Fellows:

I have purchased two different makes of reduced capacity clips for my Korean War vintage M1icon. One is a five-rounder and the other is a two-and-five round combination clip.

Neither of these clips work in my rifle. It appears that they are failing to engage the clip guide detent that locks them into the action upon loading. Standard clips work fine

Questions: Is this a common malfunction? Am I doing something wrong and is there a fix for these clips, assuming they are salvageable? This is odd, as the reduced clips seem to be the same exterior dimension as original 8-rounders

Below is a functioning 2 rnd clip that has never failed me in match play. Maybe you can compare with yours.

When you fiddle with a design, things can get changed without notice. These clips probably weren't tried in a rifle after altering and no one knew they didn't work...you may have to fiddle with them until they do.

I'm assuming that the clip must be bent in some fashion....is the problem that the clips are undersized to the point of the cutouts and dimples on the clip are not engaging their corresponding points in the magazine?

It does not take much to screw up the clip latching. Look at all the clips that were heavy on the parking . Wouldn't work but many would after a good tumble in a brass tumbler . You might compare them with a set of calipers rather than just eyeing them. Your clip latch spring may also be weak but it's not showing up yet. The new clips may just be pushing it over the edge. If you have a new spare , you might try it.

You may be trying to load it wrong. The empty end of the clip goes in the rifle first with the cartridges on the top.
