Two Ranger corporals, Robert Bevin and Earl Drost, both from Iowa, cover a French gun battery above Arzew harbor in Algeria on November 8.

The 1st Ranger Battalion marching over hilly Algerian terrain in late January 1943, shortly before the raid against an Italian outpost at Sened Station in southern Tunisia.




Burying U.S. soldiers killed in action in early December 1942. This temporary cemetery was at Les Andalouses, near Algiers.

Have not seen these before . Very good example of a grenade launching '03 on the line. His grenade bag is just peeking out from behind him.

Thing I was looking at Chris was the Fairburn-Sykes type knife on the near man's hip. Maybe one of those raider knives? The ones 1SSF got? All blackened? A bit odd in this case.

Prob'ly picked up while training in Scotland , I would guess.

Thank you for posting that picture. A great uncle of mine served in both the 1st Rangers and later the 4th Rangers before he was finally sent home severely wounded. He was also originally from Iowa.
