Did i do good guy's an whats my next step.

Hi guys need some info on this enfield No1 Mk3 i traded a guy a living room set for it. The rifle was totaly sticky with grease an dirt. I took it all apart an soaked it down with a cleaner called purple power that i got at the auto parts store. Was told by a old vet that he used it to clean coasmaline off auto parts an it was eco friendly which i couldnt find on package. From my research on this site alot of old guys used hot soapy water to clean rifles. I soaked them an brushed them down then rinsed in hot water till they ran clean. Then dried them off an hung the wood to dry. Metal was oiled for now till i can go ober them an make sure i got all off. Now i knowi have to let wood dry, what is correct finish to apply to wood n metal.Bore was bright an clean, here is a few pictures from what it started out as, Hope i did ok this is first one i tried to clean.

Nice looking rifle. Purple power would not have been my fist choice (a bit harsh) and I would not have soaked the wood (can cause warping). Raw or boiled lindseed oil would be the correct finnish. It looks as though the butt is lighter than the rest. I have had some success with alcohol based stains in matching up diffirent wood shades. Lots of good threads in the knowlage base on this subject search and enjoy.
    Please post some after pics.

thanks for the info i had tried vasaline, turpine tine, even go jo an a heat gun nothing was taking it off. it was almost like it was baked on an then oiled with gear oil. when i started with the purple power it took alot of scrubbing to soften it up an then as per directions i just rinsed it off with hot hot water an then dried all of it. so i could put raw or boiled linseed oilicon on stock with lite coats correct. an the metal should i just wax in before i put it back together? i will post pics as i go. thank you mike
