Just bought a Enfield No 7 Bayonet

It isn't in the greatest condition. I paid $160 with shipping.
The seller said it looked as though it had a "70" and an "H" on the ricasso.
How'd I do?
Any suggestions for me? Should I leave it as is? Try to restore it? Other ideas?
I'm looking for the matching scabbard and a frog (preferably a WW2-dated frog).
Anyone have any for sale at a reasonable price?
I look forward to hearing from folks.

There's quite a lot been written about these on this forum. So long as the grip end is still tight on the blade you did OK but the attrition rate of these in service because of this was tremendous. All it really needs is stripping. bead blasting phosphating and painting. That's all we used to do. BDL in SC can do that to UK MoD standards

The scabbard was the standard No5 bayonet one and qute cheap, available on ebay. The frog should be post war

These were still in use in the British Army well into the late 1990s. With the Guards division band.

Because the band were based at Pirbright, all the worlds supply of No7 spares were at 43 Command at Aldershot! To be honest, there weren't that many/much. But you guessed right...........! When Aldershot closed there was no facility to repair/rebuild them so they use the current bayonet now in high gloss black paint.

Nice addition to your collectiom. I have the same model but mine has the black grips. I am also in need of a scabbard. Mine came with a m6 scabbard.

That would still be OK as long as it was nice...you can get FN scabbards to fill the need for a #7 or #9 for the time being.

I saw a catch for a No7 bayonet (the take-it-off-the-gun catch and not the swivel catch) on that auction site. Not sure that I EVER found the need to replace one! Mind you not many left in service when I got there. But there you go if anyone needs one!
