WWII Jerry can colour?

Gents, I recently bought a very nice condition 1943 W^D British Jerry can made by BMB from a village brocante.

It appears to have been painted at some point with gloss green paint. I was wondering what colour (if any) would have been used in period. It is generally rust free with the exception of some surface rust inside the top of the can. I assume it's had regular use.

Gloss deep bronze green was the norm during the post war, early 50's up until the drab camouflage matt khaki of the late 70's onwards. My brother has a 1945 Bedford QL that is painted up in 1950's BAOR colours - gloss deep bronze green, as are the jerry-cans - and very nice too.

For those who are easily confused by color names, (I once had my boss purchase a color matching computer so I could do my job.), could you post an example of this color?

My brother has an early US version that has a separate welded-on top section and bottom plate and a large, screw-in cap. Pix and discussion here

Either was a huge improvement on the "flimsies" previously used by the Allies.
