Enfield No4 Mk1 Long Branch Finishes

    Hey All,
I picked up this gun, and the receiver and bolt looks like it has paint applied over flaking. The flaking itself looks like a previous paint finish. I have posted some photos, and welcome comments regarding any/all markings.

My question is whether paint was ever applied as a factory finish. A long time ago, I helped a friend strip paint from a Type 99 Arisakaicon. Gun was gorgeous with all its crude finishes (it was a last ditch gun). We later learned it would have been perfect ... if it had had its factory paint finish ...

I have read many of the posts here, and have most of my questions answered, but wonder about the originality of the gun. Thanks, and if you need other photos, let me know.

    Chris

Long Branches only had paint if they were FTR'd by the Brits or were in service in India. Have to see an overall picture of the rifle and a shot of the butt plate to tell you more.

More pics please, looking like a typical late 1940s Britishicon Faz FTR'rd Long Branch to me.

Yes, pics are too small and close to tell what you're asking. Looks like a UKicon overhaul though, as stated.

Looking at the pics, I would say its a LB that saw UKicon Military service, stored, then sold off to the UK gun trade...
And exported, part of the huge joint Parker Hale, Interarms buy perhaps...

Looking at the improved pics I think it was done with an overhaul in the UKicon originally and then the second coat looks like a simple spry paint done by the layman to touch up... Some of you will be able to look at the receiver and decide... Anyone seen Peter? He'd know... The cover paint doesn't look thick enough to be issue.
    Regards, Jim
