    From friends of mine that were there at the time, there was a bit of everything. The difference was according to him, the owner had to come up and smash the butt across the curb stones before throwing it into the pile.

    I think it would be for a sniper with only a head shot available sticking up out of a fox hole or looking out the window. Same as putting a bulls eye on your helmet easy to see with a scope in fact a nice white one, easier to see. I wouldn't want it on my helmet. Ray

    My uncle E. B. (Burr) Hollinger was 84th ID, 333rd IR. He was an S1 second lieutenant. I have a few pages from the unit log book that he filled out. Interesting read with casualty count, prisoner count, distance traveled, towns and villages liberated, etc.

    If that was on my helmet I think it just might, accidentally of course, get really muddy
