Inherited M1 Carbine

Hello everyone!

I'm new to the site. I recently inherited a M1 carbine and wanted to reach out to learn as much as possible about what I have. I'm not new to firearms, but I am entirely new to the M1 carbine. I have only scratched the surface of what to look for and I would very much appreciate you all lending your expertise to help me learn as much as possible about this rifle.

I see that the rifle is an Inland, serial no 3,001,927. I looked but was not able to identify any barrel stamps (better light and magnifying glass might help). The attached photos show other rifle stamps and views of the rifle. I'd appreciate any info/opinions you can provide! (let me know if you would like to see more/better photos of any part of the rifle).

Your carbine has been through a rebuild and now has most of the upgraded parts on it. It has a Winchester stock on it (WRA/GHD crossed cannons) look in the sling well for a small W. The .U. on the stock denotes that it was rebuilt buy Underwood. See below link for rebuild info.

I'm wondering about the safety. If it went through the rebuild for the adjustable sight and type 3 bayonet band, shouldn't it have a flip safety also? And if not, is there significance to the gold coloring on the push button safety? That is a great gun and in really nice shape! Enjoy!

On the safety, I think it's just the lighting on that one picture. A lot of people prefer the push safety and they're easy to change back compared to the other parts you mentioned. Those are nice pictures. I'd like to see a shot of the front sight including the area on the top side of the barrel, and just behind the sight - possibly it's had a replacement installed? - Bob

As requested, here are a few more photos showing the top of the barrel. I also include another photo of the trigger and safety, confirming that the gold color was caused by the particular photo.

Also, is the OD canvas case remarkable? It appears to be original.

Hmm.. No markings anywhere on that barrel? How about the barrel flat? Anything there?

I was able to disassemble and find some more stamps.

On the barrel, I found a flaming ordnance bomb stamp. It was located on the side at the rear of the barrel. Also found Rock-ola stamp on the gas cylinder. And found "L" stamped on the bottom of the slide, along with some stamp that is difficult to make out.

I tried to capture everything in the attached photos.
