M1 Carbine, inherited. Info? Value?

I have an M1 Carbine. Inland 6418356. Has an AAL cartouche on the stock. Barrel Underwood 4-44 P on barrel above the bayonet sleeve. It's in excellent condition.

What is this worth and any details can you guys tell me about the weapon? It belonged to a family member who was a Detroit Police officer. He carried it during the 67 riots. Came home with him when he retired.

Nice detailed pics help the experts here o/all shots and nice clear close ups of any markings although they can only go on what the photographs tell them far different from handling the weapon. Pics are easy to post just use the search engine up top to find out how;

I'll tell you so others may learn as well (Bookmark this so you have it)

This is how to do it;
Get the pics onto your desk top edit them if need be;
Start a thread in the appropraite forum, bottom Rt hit the advanced button so you can put your header in then type in your blurb,
Look on the tools bar and you will see a little paper clip hit that to open up the upload page;
You will then be hit with a small box top Left;
Open that up you will see top Rt of it Add Files;
Hit that and it will open up with Choose file - No file chosen,
Hit choose file and it will open up a large wiondow of your computer look to the left side and make sure Desktop is highlighted;
Choose the pic you want & then bottom Rt of that screen hit Open;
It will then resume you in the small box with the chosen file;
Hit + symbol to get another blank Choose file and repeat;
When finished getting all the pics you want for the thread then Hit Up Load,
It will take a bit eventually they will appear along the bottom of the small window all should have ticks in the little square;
Then if needed sort them by (Hold) Rt clicking them and draging them along the line but you should uploald them in your order required.
Hit insert on line go to the bottom of the main page after they have loaded onto the main page you wont see them yet until you hit "Submit New Thread"
Or "Submit Reply" which ever is there.

Type in- Detroit Riots in the Search Milsurps box up in the top right corner of the page. Results will give you some history of these while in the hands of the police and National Guard. That same search will explain how
some were marked on the bottom of the stocks pistol grip.
Pictures will be needed to give you the best guesstimate of value.
Also searching 'Completed Sold Auctions' on Gun Broker will give you a ballpark.
Prices vary depending on area. I see your in Traverse..... Once a ~value is put on it, the Traveling Gun and Knife show would be a good venue to carry it in with a price tag flag in the muzzle.

Your Carbine has more than likely been through at least 1 rebuild, with having a Underwood barrel. I believe 4-44 were the last of the Underwood made barrels..... If I'm wrong someone will correct me. Sight un-seen I'd put it in the $850 range + or -. Not having any Import Stamps helps the value..... but having a replacement barrel holds back the value. With all that said some of these can be worth more because of the parts that are in it. Try to picture any markings you see. Take pictures of the barreled receiver out of the stock, so we can see the type of trigger housing, hammer, bolt, stock sides and slingwell markings...etc.

Roam around on Ebay searching M1 carbine completed sold auctions. You'll see a bolt can sell for over $100, Op slide $85, front sight $45. Barrel $200-$300+. Trigger housing $85+, Stocks start over $125 and up if not repaired, Some Butt plates worth $50+.... etc
Receiver can be sold on GB for $250 up.
See if the 1 after M1 marked on the front receiver may be a Hand stamped 1.

I don't think that will have any bearing on value other than sentimental.
