Entrenching tool marking

I picked up this entrenching tool a few days back and it has a marking that I haven't been able to find any info on. Any help would me greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Your entrenching tool should have a date, mine all do have, most WW2 dates. Have you got a cover ? there
are variations since WW!

I believe it is Campbell's of St. John, NB, but will have to look through some stuff to confirm that.

OK, found it where I thought it was: on a shipwright's chisel (in need of a good clean up).

At first I thought it might be Brades & Co., but did some digging around and found nothing else similar, so would be 90% sure this is it.

I have other shovels and yes all are dated but not this one. There aren't any other
markings on it just that camel. No cover came with it.

I'll see what I can find on Campbell's, that's a great start.

If you can find the St. John newspapers online you can probably find mention of a contract being awarded - unless it was a secrecy issue, but I doubt that would be the case in peacetime.

I have one of those. It is postwar Taiwan. I have photos of mine here on one of my yard sale flea market threads. Mine actually has Tai Wan directly under the camel.

That's my thought, the US issue has the appropriate markings clearly seen. There were lots of copies made after the fact.

I thought that there was only 2 WW2 US manufacturers of the M43 entrenching tool, Ames and Wood but, apparently American Fork and Hoe also were. Does anyone know of any other WW2 makers?
