M1889 Swiss Schmidt-Rubin

Bit the bullet and picked this one up to expand the Swiss accumulation. Mfg. 1893. Mag is a mis-match, but looks like the replacement was done some time ago. P30 mark on left receiver. Am I correct in that this indicates it passed out of service to an ex-serviceman, possibly in 1930?
Didn't hurt at all that as an antique, it was shipped right to my door with no interference or interaction whatsoever from/with various restrictive governmental entities. A pleasant whiff of times past there.
I'll be slugging the bore when I get a chance in order to produce loads appropriate to it's design.

Please keep us updated on the load development. I got one of these last year, but am still too busy shooting the others to really have a chance to play with this one yet. But I know I will want to!

May take a while until testing. My shooting spot for years was closed down by conniving local authorities. Option B involves a minimum of an hour and a half drive each way. It'll happen though. There are some older threads here on the subject. I'm intending to start with two angles, a 220g RNFMJ , and a lighter cast bullet load.

Been a while, but got to the first test firing of ten rounds at 52 yards. First one was way low, walked up the next two. Fired the last seven for effect with the front sight buried in the rear notch, 6 o'clock hold on the bull.
Bullets cast from Lyman 314299, sized to .311", and gas checked. New Privi brass. Used 22g of 4198 (usual disclaimer). OAL was 3.127", about as long as would feed from the mag. No leading, and good gas sealing of the brass. Oddly, didn't get the amount of case neck swelling so many report. Should help with brass life.
Looks promising, despite elderly eyes with no corrective lenses. At least I can still focus on the front sight.

Yup. I had a tough time explaining that to the gent who sold me a M1891 Argentine Mauser that he didn't need a copy of my C&R nor do NICS check. Just pack it up and ship it off!

Seems like the powers that be have us to the point where even those remaining transactions that are perfectly legit are second guessed. I'm sure we all recall better days that don't feel like they occurred all that long ago.
