1-5 were the first Springfield Shop proof of concept rifles. Serials? What serials? And the hooded read sight?

Obviously they never went into full scale production or more would have been seen. Was this a tool room sample or an early part of a full scale tooled up for production canceled contract?

Now, here's what AI says on Google...here's where we're headed... Read this carefully.

"The M1icon Garand rifle, a .30 caliber, gas-operated, semi-automatic rifle, was produced by multiple manufacturers, including Remington-Rand, during World War II and beyond.
    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
M1 Garand: This rifle, developed by John Garand, was a .30 caliber, gas-operated, semi-automatic rifle with an 8-shot clip-fed system.
Production: The M1 rifle went into production in 1936, with Remington-Rand being one of the manufacturers.
Remington-Rand's Role: Remington-Rand, along with other companies, played a significant role in producing the M1 Garand during World War II and beyond.
Other M1 Garand Manufacturers: Besides Remington-Rand, other manufacturers of the M1 Garand included Springfield Armory and Winchester."
    Regards, Jim

The post date is 4/4/25. If it was 4/1/25 it would definitely be suspect but otherwise I'm at a loss.

From the face, there are two logical problems that make it hard to make a definitive statement:

    1. The existence of a prospective example put together by a company that wasn't eventually selected for production isn't unbelievable.
    2. An obsequious serial number is COMPLETELY believable, especially from an outlier company, given Winchester's record.

    How's that?
