    The book says that too tight of a headspace can cause the doubling ( a factor because of the rebarrel ) , but again , not just on the last rounds. Most stuff stays the same through the cycling of the eight rounds . The components of the feed / clip latch / slide hold open / area change geometry during the feeding. Look there for any bent parts or abnormal wear patterns that could be binding things up to a point where the bolt / slide movement or speed is affected . Other than that , I , too , am stumped .

    A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered.  Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping.  In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail.     But wanted to ask;
    Did your IBM have a scope mounted on it at one time?
    Looks as though it may have been tapped for one on the left side of the receiver... per your picture

    Good catch. I didn't notice that.

    That's what it looks like. Only the one hole. It had a late style adjustable rear sight when I got it. It also had a Postal Meter stock with an odd "SAFE FIRE" with direction arrows after each word stamped into the wood above the late style rotating safety. I put it back to WWII configuration but never messed with the tapped hole.

    Only one hole. Seems odd.
