Quality Hardware Receiver Q's?
Looking at 2 used USGI QH receivers. one comes with the correct detatchable tube & one does not. I've found a USGI new tube if need be, but there are no recoil springs included.
What are the differences in the Quality Hardware recoil spring & tube design?
Is the recoil spring the exact same spring used in the other USGI manufactures more dependable design?
Also, is there some kind of guide rod used to keep it all attached to the slide on a QH?
Thanks guys....

tbird430,
Welcome to the carbine forum.
The detachable tube was partly because of the hole being drilled off a bit, causing the area to crack. This was one of the causes of rejected receivers. Other makers also had detachable, mostly early on. The spring is the same.
The only part Quality made was the receiver. All other parts were contracted out.

Hello Tbird,
As Jim mentioned many of the early makers had to use the detached spring tube, this due to run out while milling. As better machining became a reality there was no need for a separate tube. QHMC stuck with what they knew.. the detachable spring tube. Which was often found marked with a Q.
Spring and guide rod are the same as in any USGI M1
carbine.

Ok, thanks Charlie. Great pic too!
So any USGI recoil spring and guide rod can be used. They just slide into this detachable tube, then all of these parts slide into place while the wooden stock keeps all of them "together".

As Jim mentioned, not only did QHMC make no other parts other than the receiver, they didn't even make all their receivers. Union Switch & Signal was contracted for 108,000 receivers, but only delivered 28,949 to QHMC. US&S also delivered 65,246 slides and 55,482 bolts to QHMC.

I know about the "UN-QUALITY" receivers made for Quality Hardware (when their production fell behind).
These are the only ones with-out the detachable recoil spring tubes.
I just knew nothing about how the QH recoil parts all came together...

US&S was not picked by QHMC to manufacture the three mentioned parts. Ordnance notified QHMC, along with National Postal Meter and Rock-Ola, to purchase the parts from US&S. As it turned out US&S was late in delivering the receivers, and less than 27% of the contracted receivers were delivered.
