Welcome to the carbine forum.

The detachable tube was partly because of the hole being drilled off a bit, causing the area to crack. This was one of the causes of rejected receivers. Other makers also had detachable, mostly early on. The spring is the same.

The only part Quality made was the receiver. All other parts were contracted out.

As Jim mentioned, not only did QHMC make no other parts other than the receiver, they didn't even make all their receivers. Union Switch & Signal was contracted for 108,000 receivers, but only delivered 28,949 to QHMC. US&S also delivered 65,246 slides and 55,482 bolts to QHMC.

I know about the "UN-QUALITY" receivers made for Quality Hardware (when their production fell behind).

These are the only ones with-out the detachable recoil spring tubes.

I just knew nothing about how the QH recoil parts all came together...
