Officially retired
Against most all advice I continued to shoot my 6 number Springfield, normally 10 to 15 reduced loads usually on Memorial and Veterans days but recently I have had a second pistol blow up in my hand, believe me guys this is no fun, I have decided to quit tempting fate and let the old gal rest for good. She is still in very good shape for a rifle that was forged in 1907 and rebarreled in 1919 so I'm fairly sure she saw action in the Great War you know the one that was suppose to end all wars, the bore is bad (very frosty) and the rifling is about gone but the old gal still shot fairly well at 100 yards. Anyways it's time for her to rest being 110 years old R.I.P.

Agreed, after all you can't really replace it.

reduced loads in early 1903 rifles
I used a steel adopter that would chamber 32 ACP or 32 S&W short, both are accurate at short ranges. Now I have an adopter for 32 S&W Long which has increased the range and still accurate. The 30 M1
carbine adopter has problems because of the bullet weight and twist of the 1903 barrelAttachment 85104Attachment 85105Attachment 85106Attachment 85107

What a great idea, does anyone make such a thing commercially?
Regarding the Springfield, agreed, time to take a very well earned retirement!

They're sort of scarce around these parts though...

actually Jim there is a guy in BC that makes them for assorted calibers, I met him at the Calgary show several years ago, I bought a sub caliber adapter for my .338. I will see if I can find the case it came in,haven't seen it in a while,I bought it and never tried it.

RCS, what distances are those targets? Ray

Ray, distances for the 32 ACP and 32 S&W Short are about half the distance of an indoor pistol range, having a sandbag rest will help too for longer range.
The 32 S&W Long was used years ago in the S&W Model 16 K-32 revolver in standard indoor matches and easy to reload. I have only just tried the 32 S&W Long
in a Model 1903A3 at a shorter distance.
