    No Serial Number?

Hey all, first post here... I recently aquired my first M1icon Carbine from an aquaintance of mine whose father carried it as one of the first Frogmen in WW2. Its absolutely pristine, 90% condition or better, easy.
The thing that stands out to me is it has no serial numbers on it at all, anywhere. It's a Standard Products manufactured weapon. My question is if this is a common occurence, and if not why do you suppose mine is this way? Thanks for any help guys, I appreciate it.
