Been frustrated for years trying to scope my NM M-1. I saw in the Rifleman this neat setup that replaces the upper HG and has a rail to mount a scout scope. Bought one from Brownell's and it's a piece of cake to mount. All materials and workmanship are

It does require you to pin the forward HG (normally floating on NMs) but as I'm not into sustained rapid fire, I doubt it will affect accuracy much. I had a now hard to find Burris 2.5-7x scout scope that I had had on my converted to centerfire 41 Swissicon. (shuda kept that rifle!) and it mounted up fine so very low you are barely above the rear "peep" sight.
If weather breaks off to range tomorrow to see how well the rifle shoots now that I can see the target.
