Several years ago a friend, Heather, a soccer Mom, with three young boys, would come out to the farm because she was enamored with my horses. One day another friend and I were shooting Garands at my range on one side of the farm while Heather and the horses were on the other side. Heather had anti-gun tendencies, probably because of her protectiveness of her boys. I called Heather over to the range, we explained what the M1 was and that boys not a lot older than hers carried rifles like these all over the world in days passed. We then set her down at the bench with ear muffs and a shoulder pad, outlined the sight picture, loaded the rifle and told her to commence firing. After the first shot she looked at me and said, "That's empowering!" I told her to keep firing. After the clip ejected, she said, "Can I have that paper?" I said, "You mean the target?" She and the boys were due at a soccer game that evening and she wanted to take along her target to show the other parents. One M1 clip and her anti-gun tendencies were ejected right along with the clip!
