Not positive on this item due to it's contents. Research suggests that it is a WWII First Aid Kit used in USAAF aircraft. It snapped to the bulkheads in the planes in convenient places. These were made in Khaki early in the war with a shift to olive drab later on which is why I believe it to be WWII era. The contents however are from the early 70's, 1971 to 1974 to be specific. Doesn't mean a whole lot as they would have been updated as time went on. Just seems odd that it would still be in service that long. By Vietnam, in addition to be olive drab, they also had a different type of carrying handle which was part of the one (and only by that time) snap strap. This one even came with the zipper blocking pin which prevents it from opening on it's own. It was not in place for the photos but fits through the round hole on the zipper. The red cross is hand painted which also is in line with WWII time frame.
