Yard Sales, Flea Markets and Antique Shops 2022

Getting an earlier start than most years. Antique shops today. Kind of slim pickings as usual but I did come across a reasonably priced M1950 US Army one burner stove today. It's a Roger's 1966 Vietnam era to go with my Rodgers 1952 Korean War era stove. They are similar being made by the same company but as you might expect, some simplification occurred between the two. The Vietnam stove is very plain with no extras, the Korean era stove has checkering around the burner and a more detailed priming knob. This one has the little parts container, the wrench and a matching year and manufacturer case for $60 which is pretty cheap for one of these.

Other pick ups were an M43 hood for an M43 jacket that I don't have and a web belt I believe is WWII but it is hard to decipher the stampings. I should probably stop buying weird things but who knows, I might find the jacket next week, or 10 years from now.

Now you know you can not stop buying weird stuff. If you did the family would start to worry that you were having mental issues.

I did not and I now have no idea where I put it. I got another odd conglomeration of stuff today. Another US canteen of a manufacture I haven't seen before F E CO 1943, an East Germanicon transitional AK 47 bayonet and a WWI Russianicon shovel dated 1915 that was probably refurbished by the Finns.

Really good yard sale day today. I'll post a teaser here and then more in the correct threads. Frenchicon Kepi, Japaneseicon hat, 37mm shell, 45 magazine (nothing exciting about this no photos), unkown holster, US ladle and a beat up Vietnam era scabbard for the Survival knife I picked up several months ago. In addition to these I got a Sunderland Flying boat model, a US Civil War miniature set Italiari made, a pair of Civil War teddy bears (matched set more for the wife but I still think they are cool) a spare set of wood for my Thompson Contender and a WWII book. The wife got a set of Precious Moments which she collects, unrelated to military however.

Another decent day, some unusual stuff. First stop I found a short 50 cal casing, not my first but it was cheap. Didn't take any photos of it. A few tables away a guy had a 48 star flag. This is something I've wanted for a while but for whatever reason just didn't pick one up. He only wanted $20 for it and it's in decent shape. Not sure if it's old enough for WWII but it will serve the purpose. After I bought this, they guy asks if I'd be interested in a US Navy signaling mirror. Never saw one before so took a look, looked it up, and he throws in this magazine, say's $40 for all. I didn't know what the magazine was but thought it could be for a Cetme which I could use or an M14icon which would be interesting to have. Told him I didn't know if I could use it and ask for just the flag and the mirror, $35. And then he didn't want to pack the magazine up so just gave it to me. Last table was another sweetheart pillow, only $5 for this one. Coincidence, it's the same event the last pillow I got was from but a different design and color.

Not positive on this item due to it's contents. Research suggests that it is a WWII First Aid Kit used in USAAF aircraft. It snapped to the bulkheads in the planes in convenient places. These were made in Khaki early in the war with a shift to olive drab later on which is why I believe it to be WWII era. The contents however are from the early 70's, 1971 to 1974 to be specific. Doesn't mean a whole lot as they would have been updated as time went on. Just seems odd that it would still be in service that long. By Vietnam, in addition to be olive drab, they also had a different type of carrying handle which was part of the one (and only by that time) snap strap. This one even came with the zipper blocking pin which prevents it from opening on it's own. It was not in place for the photos but fits through the round hole on the zipper. The red cross is hand painted which also is in line with WWII time frame.
