Well, considering the fact that the Jamestown settlement was established in 1607 that would mean that 89 years elapsed before anyone started a school in any of the English colonies ... which cannot be correct.
VERY much correct! Virginia as a state did not have ANY compulsory public education until the beginning of the 20th Century. Education was the province of the church, not the state.
