    You would have to do allot of fact checking on that list. I have read many times that the Teddy Bear name has nothing to do with Pres. Roosevelt. Can't remember details tho. And I cannot imagine him refusing to shoot a bear!

    Supposedly TR was on a tor of the South. He was in MS, some politicians decided he might like a bear hunt. They had some locals tie a bear cub to a tree, then brought TR out so he could shoot it. He refused, of course. The press picked up the story and then a toy shop in NYC started selling little stuffed bears in honor of the occasion.

    TR liked hunting, but he believed in a fair chase.

    Here in Idaho we're starting to see "shooter bull" ranches, where you pay money to shoot a bull elk in an enclosed area. Not exactly fair chase and I can't imagine TR going for that kind of action either.
