jharris, Mike has good advice if you can get such an M1with those great specs for a price you can afford. I know 5.8 M Garands one notch above Service Grade (Correct Grade) listed by the CMP
for $950 when available.
I am a shooter/collector so I would go for an all USGI Garand. 99% of the Garand would be mixmasters or restorations. I'd go for the least expensive best spec Garand I could find. Advertise for one on the WTB forum here at milsurp or CSP. Go for one with a TE no less than 4 and MW no more than 3. Check the CMP website for specs of Rack, Field, Service, Correct, and Collector Grade Garands.
Go to the website Curio and Relic Buds to see what the market prices are for varying degrees of Garands.
