    I've just had a look through the old 1958 No2 Mk1 EMER which states:
    With gauge SM143, protrusion is within limits. Protrusion will be gauged with bolt held vertically.
    Rear of firing pin is below the rear of the tenon of the bolt head, but not more than .003".

    I looked up gauge SM143 and it's the same gauge as for the No1 rifle.... and the No4 rifle of .040" low and .045" high!

    There, that's the technicalities out of the way! If you're making a new firing pin, use an old L1A1 F/pin for the material

    Someone has just pointed out an error. The SM143 gauge above should read .040" low and .050" high. Sorry about that chaps!

    So the protrusion should be between .040 and .045 then? You drive a bus through that gap ! (Ish) Very thin one . . .
